The Netopia router is a major part of connecting. So I have been trying to troubleshoot my configurations between the Netopia router and my computer. But when I contacted them for support, all they could tell me was that I had no connection and suggested it was a problem with my Mac. I think this may actually be a Uverse problem. I'm not exactly sure how the ATT tech configured the Uverse with the Netopia router and the Internet (wasn't home for this procedure). My Mac, the printers and the Netopia router are located in another room and I am assuming (yes I know that's risky) that the PlugLink connects to that wiring. The ATT tech did some rewiring and hooked up a wireless router in another room.

The Mac Pro has an ethernet connection to ATT Uverse via a device called PlugLink, which plugs directly into a wall socket. We no longer use a phoneline DSL, having switched to ATT's Uverse. It also serves to establish a local network for my Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and printers. Originally it provided a DSL connection through a landline phone. The upshot is that if you have some of these devices already, you may not need to go to the store. Turn of its WiFi, and it becomes a Switch. If you take a device sold as a Router, and turn off Addresses via DHCP, it becomes an Access Point. Next smarter is a Router, which can pass out Addresses via DHCP, and act as your Agent on the Internet. The next smarter device is an Access Point, which may have wireless capability as well. A cable that is being filled with junk by some errant device does not take out anything else, because only correct packets are forwarded. Since a Switch stores the entire packet momentarily, it can re-send it at a different speed on a different port. It accepts complete packets, checks them for correctness, stores them momentarily, and forwards them initially to all ports, but as soon as they can figure out where specific devices are plugged in, they build some simple Routing Tables and only forward to the Historically correct port. They are no essentially obsolete, because there are smarter ways. If you wiggled an input at one port, it repeated that waveform on the other ports. If anyone can glean some insight from the following diagnostics below, I would really appreciate some suggestions as to how to resolve this.
I no longer can share computers on my LAN. I have ATT Uverse (no help from their support) my computer is connected directly via ethernet to a PlugLink 9650 Ethernet Adapter and to a Netopia Router. However, I did have some monitor freezing and garbled images on the monitor, for which I had to shut down and restart the computer a couple of times. I am suddenly not able to connect to the Internet.
